Sovereign Estates Winery

In 2007, the Savaryn Family planted a test vineyard of the newly released Marquette grape. As the small test vineyard proved to be a success, an additional 5 acres of vines was planted; 4 acres of Marquette and 1 acre of La Crescent. Sovereign Estate now boasts 40 acres of vines making it the largest vineyard and winery in Minnesota and has won several awards for their wines.

Review: Sovereign Estates Winery

What can I say? Sovereign Estates is the reason I started the MN Wineries website project. I knew nothing about it before visiting the winery for the first time on a lazy Sunday afternoon in the summer of 2024 with my friend from Brazil. We were biking on the Dakota Rail Trail out of St. Bonifacius and the sign for Sovereign Estates along a cross road with the trail caught our eye. 

Upon entering the property, it felt like I was transported back in time to a Frank Cappra movie. The beautiful garden and grounds of the winery welcomed us and the live music from behind the main building filled the air with song. It was such a relaxing way to rest our legs for a few hours as we sat back and soaked up the atmosphere including a wedding shower taking place right in front of us.

I have been lucky enough to visit Sovereign Estates several times since then and it takes on a different personality with each season. If you are new to Minnesota wineries and thinking about visiting one in our state, this is the one I would recommend you start with.
